First X-Ray

During Daddy’s finals week, I caught an awful virus from somewhere, causing me to miss several days of school.  I ran a high fever for a couple of days, and my nasty cough returned.  Mom and Dad tag teamed and were able to stay home with me throughout the days until I got well.  We ended up going to the doctor one morning because Mom noticed that I had trouble breathing throughout the night.  She even called our nurse’s hotline and texted back and forth with Miss Ashley (mama’s friend AND a pediatrician) in the middle of the night since she happened to be working the ER that evening.  Turns out that I was taking about 50 breaths per minute, which was well over the normal range of 20-40 breaths for my age.  We considered going to the ER ourselves that evening, but I cooperated with using the breathing machine in the middle of the night (in exchange for a popsicle) and really wanted to just sleep (I was tired!), so Mom’s gut told her to just wait until the morning to head to the doc.  We got in first thing, and the doctor was able to rule out the flu and RSV.  She was still worried about my breathing rate though, so she ordered a chest x-ray.  So, Mom and I ended up making a trip to the hospital after all.  We had to do a lot of waiting (first to fill out paperwork and then to wait for the X-ray itself), but I was very well behaved.  Unfortunately, Mama wasn’t able to stand with me during the X-ray since it’s not good for baby brother, so she had to watch through the window.  I wasn’t happy about that, but I made it through.  The technicians were very sweet and even gave me stickers after they finished.  I’m not sure the stickers were worth it, but it was a nice offer.  Turns out the x-ray just showed a virus, which was good news.  My fever finally broke late that evening, so I spent one more day home resting and then made it back to school the very last day before break.  I was super bummed to miss out on my winter party at school, but I enjoyed the extra attention I got from Mom and Dad…and I LOVED watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse throughout the day.  Mom and I also fit in a few Christmas crafts when we could.  While mom never likes seeing me sick, she enjoyed the snuggles and extra time she got to spend with me.
