Day 1 without Gramma or Nana support, and we end up at the Urgicare Center!
What happened, you ask? Well, let me give you the scoop.
Our first big outing as a family of four was to attend church together. It was a lovely service, and I enjoyed the music as usual. I also liked showing off my little brother to the people around us. During the offertory, Joshua was getting hungry, so he and Mama went off to the nursery to feed. Meanwhile, I was hanging out with Dad, and shortly after Mom left, I decided to tumble off a church pew. I let out a wail, and Dad scooped me up, only to find blood gushing from the back of my head. I had hit my head on the kneeler...most likely the metal part...leaving a small gash. He rushed me to the nursery to find Mom, and two friendly ushers from church followed us to make sure we were alright. When they saw the blood, they went off to find a doctor in the congregation to take a look at the cut.
When Mom and Dad first looked at the cut, my hair was covering it up, so it was hard to tell how serious it was. The bleeding seemed to be slowing down, and I was calming down as well. While we waited, Mama sat with me while Dad bounced the still hungry baby. When the doctor came in, he took a look and suggested that we go into the ER or Urgicare to get it checked out. By this time, I had calmed completely and tough kid that I am, was mainly interested in playing with the toys in the nursery. So, Mom took care of feeding Joshua while Dad and I played together. My parents said that it helped that the bleeding took place on the back of my head where I couldn't see it; otherwise, I may have been a bit more concerned.
Once we were in the van, Mom suggested that we run home to grab Monkey before we headed to see a doctor. I was thankful for that, and also thankful that Dad made plans to get us all fed. It was lunchtime, and no one in this family does well when hungry. We tend to get cranky. Since I really seemed to be doing well considering the circumstances, we picked up lunch from Panera before heading to the Urgicare Center. I'm sure we were quite the sight when we arrived at Urgicare with a picnic! Turned out to be a great decision though, as we had to wait quite awhile before getting called back.
When they called my name, Dad stayed with Joshua, and Mom, Monkey, and I went with the nurse. We told her what happened, and she told us that the doctor would be right in. Turns out the doc was actually a parent of one of Mom's students, and he was very nice. He took one look at my gash and announced that he'd be gluing me up! And not with just regular glue...with PURPLE glue. He showed it to me and everything. So cool. I was very cooperative while he put the magic glue on my head and pretty excited when he let me pick out a toy airplane on my way out. Mom and Dad were so proud of me for staying calm and being tough, and very thankful that Joshua decided to sleep through the entire ordeal!
Here's a pic of me resting with Joshua later that afternoon...
