Moving Day

June 3, 2013

We waited around the morning of Moving Day expecting the truck to come early; however, it wasn't until close to lunchtime that the movers arrived.  And they worked ALL day.  Seriously...they didn't leave until 10 o'clock that night.

The truck they showed up with was HUGE.  We did our best to stay out of the movers' way by setting up towels and chairs in the front yard.  There we sat, watching them take all of our furniture and all of our boxes out of the house and place them onto the driveway and lawn.  It was incredible to see all of our stuff piled up in one place.  We definitely have a lot of stuff.

After the movers cleared a room, we would jump in and clean it.  We spent hours and hours cleaning and scrubbing and were so thankful to have Gramma and Papa around to help with some of those tasks.  We couldn't have done it without them. (How many times have we said that this month?!)

Mom, Gramma, Joshua, and I left before the movers were even done loading the truck.  We were eager to make it to O'Fallon to meet our newest cousin, Baby Belle.  She was born a few days before on Gramma and Papa's anniversary, and we knew it was killing Gramma to have to wait to meet her newest grandbaby!  Daddy and Papa stayed back to continue cleaning, but we hit the road, hoping that Joshua would sleep as much as possible.  He's really not a fan of the car, but he actually did pretty well on that trip, only crying for brief spells.

I think the best way to describe this day was surreal.  We knew it was coming for months, but it was weird that it was actually happening.  Dad had lived in that house for six years.  It was the house Mom and Dad returned to after their honeymoon, starting their married life together.  And of course, this is the house Joshua and I had called home all of our lives.  I even took my first steps here!  Things we'll miss most: that teal front door, our water tower, the jacuzzi tub where Joshua and I took our baths, the little park across the street, our tomato garden and Daddy's fresh herbs, the beautiful white kitchen, the way the house looked when it was lit up with Christmas lights, our back porch, the open space on the first floor that was perfect for running circles, the proximity to KU, and of course, our landlords.  This house is owned by our dear friends, the Reussners, and they were so kind to allow us to live there.  We were truly blessed with a beautiful first home, and it's incredibly hard to leave behind.  Goodbye, 1903 Stratford Rd.  Thanks for the memories!

Love,
 Eli

Who needs movers when you have these muscles?

Mama and boys check out the massive tires.

Can you see me?  I look like an ant!

Miss Kim stopped by for one last hug!
